Man behind the golden throne dies

JEWEL tycoon Lam Sai-wing, who created the famous HK$38mil (RM16.8mil) gold restroom, died at his home in Hong Kong last week, reported Nanyang Siang Pau.

The 53-year-old Lam was found dead in his luxury apartment in Bowen Road on Friday.

Lam started his gold empire as a craftsman 30-years ago and rose to become the chairman of the RM530mil Hang Fung Gold Technology Group.

His US$50mil (RM171.8mil) house, known as Gold Palace, is filled with items made of gold.

The restroom that he designed is said to be worth HK$90mil (RM39.77mil) now.

Lam also crafted the golden Wong Dai Sin Temple and the Kuan Yin statue.
